INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Mayor’s Advisory Council on Disability (MACD) announced Thursday the recipients of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 25th Anniversary Special Recognition Awards and the James Pauley Lifetime Service Award for 2015 at the annual Access and Inclusion Awards ceremony at the Indianapolis Artsgarden in Downtown Indianapolis.

Americans with Disabilities Act 25th Anniversary Special Recognition Awards were presented to Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, former Indianapolis Mayors Bart Peterson and Stephen Goldsmith, and former directors of the City’s Office of Disability Affairs Juli Paini and Peter Bisbecos.

The Americans with Disabilities Act 25th Anniversary Special Recognition Awards celebrates the achievements of City leaders who have demonstrated leadership in enhancing access and inclusiveness, advocated to advance the ADA, and inspired the many significant events that have positively impacted the lives of people with disabilities throughout Indianapolis.  The Award commemorates the 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation.

The 2015 James Pauley Lifetime Service Award was given to former Indianapolis Mayor William Hudnut. The James Pauley Lifetime Service Award is given to an individual who demonstrates outstanding contributions that promote the inclusion and independence of persons with disabilities in memory of MACD Chair James K. Pauley. Pauley served as Chairperson of the MACD from 1978 to 1980 and was a lifelong advocate and active volunteer in the Indianapolis disability community.
